Scuffles have broken out between police and protesters who took to the Israeli streets on Sunday, including to PM Benjamin Netanyahu's official residence in Jerusalem, demanding he resign and lambasting his coronavirus response.

Police used water cannons and mounted units to disperse crowds in Jerusalem and Tel Aviv as thousands of protesters demanded Netanyahu's resignation over corruption charges and demonstrated against the government's response to the Covid-19 pandemic.

The latest protests against Netanyahu came the day before the second hearing in his trial on charges of fraud, breach of trust and accepting bribes.

https://twitter.com/JoshMarks78/status/1284574767014699008?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw%7Ctwcamp%5Etweetembed%7Ctwterm%5E1284574767014699008%7Ctwgr%5E&ref_url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.rt.com%2Fnews%2F495195-netanyahu-corruption-protest-clashes%2F

The government on Friday announced new restrictions over Covid-19, which has taken a heavy economic toll on the country.

Protesters argued that instead of taking action to avoid the second wave of the disease, the Israeli leader had been more preoccupied with his own legal woes.

Instead of planning a fight against the justice system, you should have been planning to fight against unemployment," one of the speakers at the anti-government rally in Tel Aviv's Charles Clore Park said, as cited by the Jerusalem Post.

Police arrested some protesters in Tel Aviv, where demonstrators blocked roads and threw objects at officers. At least one officer was allegedly pepper-sprayed.

Thousands protest outside Israeli PM Netanyahu's official residence as unrest rises over economy, coronavirus handling
https://www.rt.com/news/495874-israel-protest-netanyahu-coronavirus/?utm_source=browser&utm_medium=aplication_chrome&utm_campaign=chrome

Huge crowds calling for the resignation of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu rallied outside his home Saturday in Jerusalem on growing discontent over the government's Covid-19 response, high unemployment and corruption.

More than 5,000 people gathered on Balfour Street, now a frequent site of anti-government demonstrations, according to Haaretz newspaper, making it the biggest of several protests this week. Demonstrators also rallied elsewhere in Israel.

Protesters' grievances focus mainly on Netanyahu's handling of the pandemic, including a strict lockdown that caused unemployment to surge and a spike in cases after the abrupt lifting of safety measures in May. Demonstrators also are decrying legislation passed this week granting the government emergency powers until 2021, as well as Netanyahu's refusal to step down as prime minister despite facing corruption charges.

https://twitter.com/ha_makom/status/1287102708487421956?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw%7Ctwcamp%5Etweetembed%7Ctwterm%5E1287102708487421956%7Ctwgr%5E&ref_url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.rt.com%2Fnews%2F495874-israel-protest-netanyahu-coronavirus%2F

The rally saw heavy police presence with officers pulling people out of the crowd and then releasing them without charges, according to local media. More than 100 people were arrested during this week's protests.

https://twitter.com/kann_news/status/1287144176702889985?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw%7Ctwcamp%5Etweetembed%7Ctwterm%5E1287144176702889985%7Ctwgr%5E&ref_url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.rt.com%2Fnews%2F495874-israel-protest-netanyahu-coronavirus%2F

But police didn't use water cannons to disperse crowds, as they did on Thursday. Rally organizers threatened in a letter Saturday to Jerusalem's police chief that they would petition Israel's High Court if officers used such tactics again.

https://twitter.com/NTarnopolsky/status/1287033272288129029?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw%7Ctwcamp%5Etweetembed%7Ctwterm%5E1287033272288129029%7Ctwgr%5E&ref_url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.rt.com%2Fnews%2F495874-israel-protest-netanyahu-coronavirus%2F

Several demonstrators were pepper-sprayed during Saturday's protest by an unknown attacker. Police arrested an unidentified suspect who was found in possession of pepper spray, a flare and "material suspected of being a dangerous drug."

Netanyahu lashed out Saturday evening at Israel's leading news broadcaster, Channel 12, saying its coverage of the demonstrations was fueling the protests against him.

WATCH: Hundreds of right- & left-wing protesters clash with each other and police on Tel Aviv streets
https://www.rt.com/news/496507-clashes-tel-aviv-protesters-police/?utm_source=browser&utm_medium=aplication_chrome&utm_campaign=chrome

Mounted police were deployed in Tel Aviv on Tuesday, where at least four people were arrested and a further five were hospitalized with stab wounds, after violent clashes between left-wing protesters and various right-wing groups.

Roughly a thousand protesters gathered outside the home of Israel's Minister of Internal Security Amir Ohana Tuesday night.

The demonstrations followed the publication of recordings in which Ohana appeared to call for Jerusalem district police commander, Superintendent Yaron Yedid, to crush ongoing protests outside embattled Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's official residence.

The protests have been held in recent weeks over the prime minister's handling of the coronavirus crisis, his ongoing corruption scandal and the country's tanking economy, spurred by increasing unemployment.

Eyewitness footage from Tel Aviv Tuesday night shows the chaos which ensued as right- and left-wing protesters clashed and engaged each other in street fights.

Sporadic brawls between police and protesters also broke out, and a journalist was struck in the head by a stone; the person responsible was arrested.

Five protesters required medical treatment for stab wounds, in attacks which were attributed to pro-Netanyahu activists.

A group of Beitar Jerusalem soccer hooligans, known as 'La Familia,' were blamed for some of the violence against left-wing protesters on Saturday and again on Tuesday night.

Various other alleged Netanyahu supporters reportedly hurled stones, bottles and pepper spray against hundreds of protesters.

"They must be caught and brought to justice, the protest will not be silenced as long as we are here," Defense Minister Benny Gantz said.

12 people arrested as Israeli police break up sit-in during largest anti-Netanyahu protest in Jerusalem (VIDEO)
https://www.rt.com/news/496900-israel-netanyahu-protest-police/?utm_source=browser&utm_medium=aplication_chrome&utm_campaign=chrome

Thousands gathered outside Benjamin Netanyahu's home in Jerusalem on Saturday, demanding the Israeli PM resign. Police moved in to disperse the crowd in one of the largest protests in weeks.

The Israeli media put the turnout at around 10,000, with this rally against Netanyahu transitioning into a sit-in and continuing until after midnight.

The Israeli PM's official residence in central Jerusalem has been turned into the site of frequent anti-government demonstrations. And the gatherings show no sign of dying down.

The demonstration was sanctioned by the authorities and saw a huge police presence involving mounted officers and water cannons.

The activists said they were protesting because "the Israeli government has failed in leading the Corona crisis. And the Prime Minister is charged with severe accusations in corruption, and above all, the Israeli democracy is under danger."

Netanyahu, the Israeli PM since 2009, has "failed. And in every normal country, whoever fails – goes home. And gives a chance to somebody else," one of the protestors said.

People refused to leave the square, and police were eventually sent in to force them to disperse, but it was no easy task as the participants of the sit-in held on tight to each other. The officers eventually managed to extract several people from it, making 12 arrests.

Hundreds also protested outside Netanyahu's private residence in Caesarea, which was also heavily guarded by security forces.

While the demonstrations were largely peaceful, in recent protests there were clashes with police, as well as brawls between left-wing protesters and various right-wing groups.

A strict lockdown has caused unemployment to surge in Israel, while the abrupt lifting of safety measures in May led to a spike in coronavirus cases in the country. Netanyahu was indicted last November for allegedly taking gifts from billionaires in return for political favors, and for making deals with media owners for less critical coverage. He denies the charges.

Several thousand demonstrators marched in Jerusalem, gathering outside of the prime minister's residence in yet another massive anti-government protest, as Benjamin Netanyahu blamed the media for inciting left-wing riots.

The authorities said that 5,000 people took part in the protest, while Channel 13 reported up to 15,000 in the Saturday night rally that took place in Jerusalem for the fifth consecutive week.

Holding signs with slogans like "Your time is up" and "Crime Minister," protesters demanded Netanyahu resign over corruption charges and alleged mishandling of the coronavirus crisis.

https://twitter.com/JoshuaPotash/status/1292166685856677888?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw%7Ctwcamp%5Etweetembed%7Ctwterm%5E1292166685856677888%7Ctwgr%5E&ref_url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.rt.com%2Fnews%2F497492-israel-netanyahu-residence-protest%2F

The protest ended without major incidents, amid a heavy police presence deployed to prevent any unrest, as well as to ensure the demonstrators "follow the Health Ministry's instructions," according to Sputnik.

Meanwhile, Netanyahu once again blasted Israeli media, and Channel 13 in particular, for its 'one-sided' coverage of the protests. The violence on the part of the demonstrators is completely ignored, he said, as well as the daily "death threats" against his family – all while he is "fighting to restore the economy and provide financial aid to Israeli citizens."

Netanyahu was charged with bribery, fraud and breach of public trust in several cases last November. Public anger is also being fueled by a strict coronavirus lockdown, which caused an unemployment surge in the country – while the abrupt lifting of restrictions in May led to a spike in Covid-19 cases. Many people were also left without the financial aid promised by the prime minister.

Scuffles, arrests in Jerusalem as people protest against PM Netanyahu for 8th consecutive week (VIDEO)

Thousands rallied against Israeli PM Benjamin Netanyahu on Saturday as anger over his alleged corruption and response to Covid-19 continues to boil in the streets. Several people were arrested when police dispersed protesters. An estimated 10,000 people took part in the main anti-government demonstration outside of the prime minister's official residence in Jerusalem, local media reported. The numbers were somewhat lower than the previous week, when record attendance was registered.

Ten protesters were arrested after police started dispersing demonstrators who stayed at the scene after midnight. Some were taken into custody for refusing to leave or resisting officers while others were intercepted trying to start a protest march to another location, which the police would not allow.

The usual themes of the protests – Netanyahu's alleged corruption and the way his government tackled the Covid-19 epidemic – had a new addition this week. The demonstration happened two days after Israel signed an agreement with the UAE on establishing diplomatic ties, and slogans referring to the move were added to the protesters' toolbox.

https://twitter.com/abierkhatib/status/1294712094127001602?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw%7Ctwcamp%5Etweetembed%7Ctwterm%5E1294712094127001602%7Ctwgr%5E&ref_url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.rt.com%2Fnews%2F498136-jerusalem-protest-netanyahu-corruption%2F

"Fly Emirates and never come back," read one sign at the rally, apparently addressed to the prime minister. "If there's no bread, fly to Dubai," said another. Protesters see the agreement as a ploy to distract Israelis from problems at home and score political points for Netanyahu.

Dozens arrested amid chaotic anti-Netanyahu protests in Jerusalem

Thousands of people have hit the streets of Jerusalem, as protests against PM Benjamin Netanyahu's alleged corruption, as well as mishandling of the coronavirus crisis, continue across the country.

Up to 10,000 people hit the streets of Jerusalem on Saturday, according to some estimates, as the protests against Netanyahu continue for the 9th consecutive week. The activists gathered in front of Netanyahu's official residence, and blocked several intersections across the city.

https://twitter.com/NTarnopolsky/status/1297306783158013952?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw%7Ctwcamp%5Etweetembed%7Ctwterm%5E1297306783158013952%7Ctwgr%5E&ref_url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.rt.com%2Fnews%2F498751-netanyahu-protest-jerusalem-arrests%2F

As the demonstration escalated into sporadic scuffles between police and protesters, at least 30 people were detained, local media reported.

https://twitter.com/JoshBreiner/status/1297235417750802433?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw%7Ctwcamp%5Etweetembed%7Ctwterm%5E1297235417750802433%7Ctwgr%5E&ref_url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.rt.com%2Fnews%2F498751-netanyahu-protest-jerusalem-arrests%2F

The protest brought people together over a variety of issues, including the long-standing corruption charges against Netanyahu, as well as the 20+ percent unemployment rate and overall state of Israeli economy.

https://twitter.com/JoshBreiner/status/1297276807020937218?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw%7Ctwcamp%5Etweetembed%7Ctwterm%5E1297276807020937218%7Ctwgr%5E&ref_url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.rt.com%2Fnews%2F498751-netanyahu-protest-jerusalem-arrests%2F

The government's handling of the coronavirus crisis also faced criticism, as this week Israel passed the 100 thousand cases mark, a relatively significant number for the 9 million nation.

Activists of the so-called Black Flag movement, that perceives Netanyahu as a 'threat to Israel's democracy', were spotted among the protesters as well.

The new round of protests comes just before the August 25 deadline to pass the state budget. The government has been in deadlock over it for weeks already, and blowing the deadline could result in a new general election – the fourth one in less than two years.

Israeli police officer caught violently punching protesters in 'self-defense', Interior Ministry launches investigation
https://www.rt.com/news/498780-israel-police-officer-violence/?utm_source=browser&utm_medium=aplication_chrome&utm_campaign=chrome

A senior Israeli police officer is in hot water after he was filmed violently punching people during mass protests in Jerusalem. The officer, however, claims he was defending himself from rowdy protesters.

The Justice Ministry launched an investigation into the conduct of Jerusalem District Police Chief Superintendent Nisso Guetta on Sunday.

The high-ranking officer was filmed overnight punching and throwing protesters to the ground during a demonstration against Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

https://twitter.com/JoshBreiner/status/1297235417750802433?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw%7Ctwcamp%5Etweetembed%7Ctwterm%5E1297235417750802433%7Ctwgr%5E&ref_url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.rt.com%2Fnews%2F498780-israel-police-officer-violence%2F

While the footage available does not conclusively show what exactly prompted the officer's violent behavior, he claimed the protesters attacked him and he was merely defending himself.

The mass protests, which have entered the 9th consecutive weekend, turned out to be particularly violent overnight. Around 30 people were detained in Jerusalem, and law enforcement said several officers were injured.

An estimated 10,000 people hit the streets of Jerusalem on Saturday night, gathering outside of Netanyahu's official residence and trying to block multiple intersections. While the alleged corruption of Netanyahu, who has been entangled in several high-profile investigations for years now, remains the focus of the protests, the unrest is further fueled by other issues plaguing the country.

The protesters expressed their anger over the economic situation in Israel, which remains in a deep recession with soaring unemployment surpassing 20 percent recently.

Another hot topic is the government's handling of the coronavirus crisis. This week, the total number of Covid-19 cases reached over 100,000 – arguably quite a large number for a nation of 9 million people.

At least 12 people have been arrested and two police officers injured in sporadic clashes in Jerusalem during a weekly anti-government protest over PM Benjamin Netanyahu's alleged corruption and botched Covid-19 pandemic response.

Thousands hit the streets of Jerusalem on Saturday night, as protests against Netanyahu continued for the 11th consecutive weekend, although they failed to replicate last week's record numbers.

As one group gathered in front of Netanyahu's official residence, another crowd marched through the city to join them. About a dozen people were arrested for trying to cross barricades, veering off-path, ignoring police orders, and "fighting with cops."

https://twitter.com/AAhronheim/status/1302320921114537986?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw%7Ctwcamp%5Etweetembed%7Ctwterm%5E1302320921114537986%7Ctwgr%5Eshare_3&ref_url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.rt.com%2Fnews%2F499976-israel-netanyahu-protests-clashes%2F

One of those detained was a performance artist, Zeev Engelmayer, who showed up "dressed as a naked woman, in a way that could constitute sexual harassment of the public," according to police.

The weekly protests have brought Israelis together on a variety of issues, including the longstanding corruption charges against Netanyahu, as well as the unemployment rate and overall state of the Israeli economy.

The government's handling of the coronavirus crisis also faced criticism, as the death toll in Israel passed 1,000 this week, with nearly 30,000 confirmed active cases.

https://twitter.com/migdalser/status/1302367565470216197?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw%7Ctwcamp%5Etweetembed%7Ctwterm%5E1302367565470216197%7Ctwgr%5Eshare_3&ref_url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.rt.com%2Fnews%2F499976-israel-netanyahu-protests-clashes%2F

Netanyahu has repeatedly dismissed the protesters as "leftists" and "anarchists,"blaming the media for inciting violence.
