(JTA) — The board of directors of a Utah-based property management software firm asked its chairman to quit after he sent an email accusing Jews of planning "genocide" through COVID and its vaccine.

"Entrata's board of directors today asked Dave Bateman to resign from the company's board of directors, including his position as chairman," said the statement sent late Tuesday to reporters. "Dave agreed and is no longer a member of the Entrata board, effective immediately."

Bateman had sent an email to a coterie of associates, including Utah Gov. Spencer Cox and Utah Jazz owner Ryan Smith, with the subject line "Genocide." In it, he suggested that COVID-19 and its vaccines are the work of Jews, and that both are "attacking the reproductive systems of women" and eroding natural immunity.

"For 300 years the Jews have been trying to infiltrate the Catholic Church and place a Jew covertly at the top," Bateman wrote. "It happened in 2013 with Pope Francis. I believe the pandemic and systematic extermination of billions of people will lead to an effort to consolidate all the countries in the world under a single flag with totalitarian rule."

Utah later told Fox 13, a local TV station, that "some of my closest friends are Jews," but also that "I do believe Scottish Rite Freemasons are behind the pandemic (overwhelmingly Jewish). And I fear billions of people around the globe right now are being exterminated."

The remarks sparked outrage in Utah's tech and political sectors, and in the local Jewish community.

"To be absolutely clear, we at Entrata firmly condemn antisemitism in any and all forms," said the board's statement. "For those who have seen and been offended or disturbed by the content of Dave's email, we understand and share your disappointment. At Entrata, we respect and support all religions, genders, sexual orientations, races, and beliefs. Diversity and inclusivity are critical to the success and future of Entrata."

Last year Entrata raised $507 million in funding.

Tech boss emails associates, including Utah governor, to say COVID is a deadly Jewish plot

(JTA) — The founder and chairman of a major property management software firm told a coterie of associates, including the governor of Utah, that COVID was a deadly Jewish plot.

"I believe there is a sadistic effort underway to euthanize the American people," David Bateman, the founder of Entrata, said in the email, first reported Tuesday by Fox 13, a Salt Lake City TV station. The email, subject-lined "Genocide," suggested that COVID-19 and its vaccines are the work of Jews, and that both are "attacking the reproductive systems of women" and eroding natural immunity.

"I believe the Jews are behind this," Bateman wrote in the email sent to leaders in Utah's tech and political sectors, including Gov. Spencer Cox and Utah Jazz owner Ryan Smith. Bateman is active in Utah GOP circles.

"For 300 years the Jews have been trying to infiltrate the Catholic Church and place a Jew covertly at the top," Bateman wrote. "It happened in 2013 with Pope Francis. I believe the pandemic and systematic extermination of billions of people will lead to an effort to consolidate all the countries in the world under a single flag with totalitarian rule. I know, it sounds bonkers. No one is reporting on it, but the Hasidic Jews in the US instituted a law for their people that they are not to be vaccinated for any reason."

Vaccine skepticism among Hasidic Jews has proliferated for the same reasons as in some other insular sectors: rumor-mongering and the spread of disinformation.

Some of the recipients of the email and others in Utah's business and political sectors were aghast.

"It's incredibly disturbing that somebody in our community would voice these kinds of opinions, especially during this time," Elizabeth Converse, the executive director of Utah Tech Leads, a group promoting tech investment in the state, told Fox 13. "We've all seen a rise in antisemitic behavior across the country and specifically in Utah because of the virus."

Bateman told Fox 13 in a text message that "some of my closest friends are Jews," but also that "I do believe Scottish Rite Freemasons are behind the pandemic (overwhelmingly Jewish). And I fear billions of people around the globe right now are being exterminated."

Tech company whose founder wrote antisemitic COVID screed pledges six-figure sum to local synagogue

When a Utah tech company wanted to make amends after its founder penned an antisemitic screed blaming Jews for the COVID-19 pandemic, they called a local rabbi to see what they could do to help.

The rabbi walked out of a Friday meeting with Entrata executives with a six-figure pledge from the company, to be used to fix up his synagogue and repair the community's damaged Torah scrolls, the Forward reported on Monday.

"They said, 'We're going to take care of all that for you,' and they made the largest donation we've ever seen," Rabbi Sam Spector of Salt Lake City's Congregation Kol Ami told the Forward.

The property management software company was embroiled in scandal last week when one of its founders, David Bateman, emailed his antisemitic message to leaders in Utah's tech and political sectors, including Gov. Spencer Cox and Utah Jazz owner Ryan Smith. Bateman is active in Utah GOP circles and has donated to Utah Republicans.

"I believe there is a sadistic effort underway to euthanize the American people," Bateman wrote in the email, which was first reported Tuesday by Fox 13, a Salt Lake City TV station. The email, subject-lined "Genocide," suggested that COVID-19 and its vaccines are the work of Jews, and that both are "attacking the reproductive systems of women" and eroding natural immunity. "I believe the Jews are behind this," he wrote.

Entrata asked Bateman to resign from his post as board chairman the same day the email was publicized, and he agreed to.

Some of the recipients of the email and others in Utah's business and political sectors were aghast.
