An international conference on the fight against antisemitism — organized by Pastor Eduardo Gomez, Director of Latino America Nueva — will be held in the Colombian capital of Bogotá this week, from Wednesday, January 26th, through Friday, January 28th.

The event is being co-sponsored by the Combat Antisemitism Movement (CAM), Latino Coalition for Israel (LCI), Confederation of Jewish Communities of Colombia (CCJC), Zionist Federation of Colombia, and Limmud Bogotá.

Officials and organization representatives from countries across the Americas and the world — including Colombia, Guatemala, Peru, Paraguay, Uruguay, Honduras, Mexico, the United States, and Israel, are expected to participate, either in-person or virtually, with Israeli Ambassador to Colombia Cristian Cantor and former Paraguayan President Nicanor Duarte among them.

The guest of honor will be former Guatemalan President Jimmy Morales and his wife Patricia de Morales.

Conference attendees will take part in the official International Holocaust Remembrance Day commemoration ceremony in Bogotá on Thursday.

CAM Director of Hispanic Outreach Shay Solomon will speak at the conference about steps that can be taken throughout Latin America to combat antisemitism and bolster ties with the State of Israel.

All participants will be invited by Solomon to join CAM's current #CantBeCompared campaign  against Holocaust trivialization and sign the declaration calling for action against this threatening form of antisemitic hate speech.

Former Brazilian President Lula da Silva has called for supporting Palestinians' right to establish a state, Palestinian sources reported.

Da Silva reiterated his view that the UN should be restructured so that progress can be made regarding major issues such as "the creation of a Palestinian state." The leftist leader also called for ending America's power of veto at the UN Security Council.

According to polls, Da Silva is pulling ahead of his rival, far-right pro-Israel President Jair Bolsonaro, and could win in the first-round of Brazil's election in October, Reuters reports.

Brazilian MP saying that Da Silva backed the Palestinian right to self-determination during his reign, as well as supporting the right to establish the Palestinian state.

The 76-year-old governed Brazil from 2003-2010 and his government's social programs pulled millions of Brazilians from poverty. He spent time in jail on corruption charges that were later annulled, allowing him to run for office again.

Current President Jair Bolsonaro is a supporter of Israel and in 2018 said that Palestine is not a state.
