One small Step Towards a Semiconductor Fab, One Giant Leap for Independence from US-Zio Axis of Evil

"Russia's government has developed a preliminary version of its new microelectronics development plan that requiresinvestments of around ₽3.19 trillion ($38.43 billion) by 2030. The money will be spent on the development of localsemiconductor production technologies, domestic chip development, datacenter infrastructure, developing of local talents, and marketing of homebrew chips and solutions, reports Cnews."

This is FANTASTIC news.

Russia's economy is dependent on imported semiconductors.

The weakness in such an arrangement should have been obvious, but now - THEY'RE DOING SOMETHING ABOUT IT.

Also, some might say, "well so what, 28 nanometer is like a 2006 Opteron".

However if you ask people in the 3D world, whether it's industrial strength engineering - like a model of a car engine, indetail - or a 3D animation for the entertainment world, "on which computers did you do the work that earned you the most money ?"

The answer for most of us is, 2006 era Opterons and before.

I have 3x 6 core workstations now, but for sure, my most effective computer, hardware & software, was a 2008 vintage Quad Core.

Better also because, the Software was better.

The Kings of Computer Graphics ?  Carl Rosendahl, who started Pacific Data Images in the early 1980's - which later became Dreamworks animation - sold what hadn't been bought by Dreamworks, in the late 90's/ early 00's.

One of the Key guys in "Pre-Viz", the ultra-talented artists who can draw as fast as people can talk, coached me in the mid-00's, the Opteron era.  He built his place in the Pre-Viz world before semiconductor geometries ever got smaller than 20 nanomaters.

Personally, since I support Russia becoming independent of the US and even China, I feel like grabbing Mr. Putin by the lapels and saying, "you've GOT TO build your own semiconductor Fabs ! ! !"

Well, now I don't have to worry about being tackled by Mr. Putin's bodyguards, since they are starting to do what they needed to do before they ever attacked Ukraine.

Of course the US will probably try to sabotage Russia's semiconductor fabs.
