Rabat, 15 Jan. 2009 (MAP) - Morocco's Jewish Communities Council voiced solidarity with "the innocent victims who suffer in Gaza and elsewhere" and expressed its concern over the fate of "the essential process, which should lead to peace between the children of Abraham years ago."

The Council deplored the fact that the inhabitants of Gaza died because of the bombing and the lack of water and food, which is  unacceptable and incompatible with our religious precepts, a press release of the council said on Thursday.

"The Moroccan people, including the Jewish community, is deeply saddened by what is going on in Gaza," the press release added, underlining that the pictures of Palestinian children who are killed is unbearable."

The council also affirmed that force cannot lead to a just and viable solution, stressing the need to "give peace a chance."

Earlier, Secretary General of the Foundation for Moroccan Jewish Heritage, Simon Lévy, denounced the Israeli aggression on Gaza, and called on the international community to intervene to resolve the conflict.

"We are horrified by the unjustified carnage which killed around 1,000 people in Gaza," said Levy in a statement to Moroccan radio station "Rabat Chaîne Inter".

"It is horrible and this is not the way I see Judaism," Levy said, voicing hope that peace will be established and that the massacre against the Palestinian people in Gaza will stop.

He called on the international community to put a "just end" to the conflict that has long lasted, and described the situation in Gaza as "more than deplorable."

Recalling the historical coexistence between Morocco's different religions, Levy hailed the reaction of high-spirited Palestinians who showed strong convictions, faith and will to live in an independent land.
