QuoteTHE INTERNATIONAL was inspired by the BCCI, or Bank of Credit & Commerce International, banking scandal --- which took place throughout the 80s and into the early 90s.

The BCCI was the largest criminal corporate enterprise ever, the biggest Ponzi scheme, the most pervasive money-laundering operation in history, the only bank—so far as anyone knows—that ran a brisk sideline business in both conventional and nuclear weapons, gold, drugs, turnkey mercenary armies, intelligence and counter intelligence, shipping, and commodities from cement in the Middle East to Honduran coffee to Vietnamese beans. And they were instrumental in supplying both Pakistan and India with a nuclear bomb...

Though it was fundamentally a financial fraud, BCCI itself was not a bank in any conventional sense. Or, more precisely, banking was only a part of the global organism, the ingeniously constructed platform from which its other lines of business were launched. Taken collectively, it was more of an armed Renaissance city-state of Machiavelli's era than a modern corporation. This "bank" possessed its very own diplomatic corps, intelligence network, and private army, its own shipping and commodities trading companies.

The organization was designed to mimic the way the world's largest corporations and banks move and hide their money. It was no accident that BCCI was incorporated in Luxembourg, one of the least regulated nations on earth and a favorite haven of the money-men at the Fortune 500. It was no accident that it ran its wildest manipulations through what amounted to a branch in the Cayman Islands --- a place long favored by major banks to hold offshore money away from the ken of the IRS and banking authorities.

The BCCI scandal affords a rare and representative glimpse at the trillion-dollar-plus underground market of secret money that moves at will in and out of the world's most sophisticated and highly regulated economies. For all of these reasons, no authorities were in a hurry to shut down BCCI: the bank was as useful to governments as it was to crooks, and indeed, governments became active participants in the fraud. In the United States BCCI became the subject of a massive and decade long cover-up.

This criminal rampage lasted for nearly two decades. Rarely was BCCI hindered by bank regulators, law enforcement authorities, or politicians, in part because it had bought off many of the people who should have been policing it. Its political reach was awesome: the BCCI network was connected to some of the most powerful people in the world, including Middle Eastern potentates, Asian strong men, and political leaders in Europe and the United States. No matter what the method, the purpose was always to "buy influence." BCCI used this influence to protect itself from its enemies; equally important, the bank was actively involved in promoting the political agendas of its backers, especially the rulers of Arab nations in the Persian Gulf.

Because the bank was a privately held institution (its shares could not be bought on any stock market), it was not obliged to provide detailed information to the public and it was not scrutinized by stock market analysts. Anyone who did try to figure out BCCI by studying its annual reports would be stymied by its complicated structure: a maze of subsidiaries and affiliates incorporated in several different countries.

The bank had its own intelligence and counter-intelligence apparatus --- much like its own CIA. Many of the people involved in this network were ex-KGB and Stasi members looking to cash in on their highly-specialized skillsets. They used these skills and their contacts for activities such as surveillance, extortion, kidnapping, and murder --- anything to further the banks interest.

This was literally a "full service bank," and bank employees referred to it as such. If you wanted to buy advanced military weaponry for whatever reason, you had only to let the BCCI know and they were capable of doing the rest --- identifying a seller, paying off customs officials to allow smooth, uninhibited transport, utilizing their own shipping companies to move the goods, their own manpower to protect the goods, and their own bank accounts to store all of the money associated with the entire transaction.

The bank worked with not only with intelligence services (such as Mossad, CIA, etc.) but also with terrorists, drug dealers, organized crime kingpins, and third-world despots who looted their countries. It was the largest financial supermarket ever created for the likes of Manuel Noriega, Ferdinand Marcos, Saddam Hussein and the Colombian drug barons amongst others.

The characters in THE INTERNATIONAL are loosely based on the real investigators who helped bring down the BCCI. John Moscow --- the assistant D.A. who directed the BCCI Investigation for Manhattan D.A. Robert Morgenthau. Against all odds, Moscow and Morgenthau were two of the only people in the world willing to go after the bank despite the fact that the Justice Department, FBI, CIA and White House were trying to undermine their investigation, and their investigators were receiving death threats and intimidation. Nonetheless, Moscow and Morgenthau relentlessly pursued the bank and were the key figures responsible for breaking the scandal wide open and finally bringing the bank down.

No one ever went to jail for this $50 billion fraud. And many of those prominently involved in the fraud or associated with the bank have key posts in the Bush Administration --- in fact, President Bush had direct dealings with BCCI (Harken Oil).

Although the Manhattan D.A.'s office succeeded in shutting the bank down, they were not successful in curtailing or preventing this type of institutionalized crime from flourishing.

The BCCI's of today are much more sophisticated and therefore destructive. They have learned from the mistakes of the past and have created organizations whose structure is so complicated and Byzantine that it's almost impossible for authorities to track and successfully prosecute them for their illegal activities.

The BCCI didn't invent the idea of promoting conflict in order to profit from the debt that it creates, but what they did is streamline the process. You have companies like the Carlyle Group and Bechtel that have taken the BCCI model to the next level.

Today you have China using the Swiss banks/offshore banks as proxies to sell small arms to Sudan as a way of avoiding UN sanctions. China is fueling the conflict in Darfur in order to run up Sudanese debt and control their tremendous oil resources.

The same old game, just a new playing field. And this is happening all over Africa.

ODIOUS DEBT: Odious debt is a huge problem in the Third World right now. Odious debt is debt a country incurs that is not beneficial to the inhabitants of the country. An example of how banks profit from odious debt is the following:

A first world bank makes a massive loan to the corrupt leader of a poverty-stricken third world country, ostensibly for some improvement or infrastructure that the country does not need --- like a NASCAR racing track. The leader then pillages this new influx of capital, taking it for himself --- and transfers it into a secret offshore account of the very bank that loaned him the money in the first place. The bank never really loses the money in this debt/capital flight cycle, it still has the capital to make other investments... but in addition, it now controls the debt for its loan in the first place --- a debt that will be eventually repaid not by the country's leader but by its taxpaying citizens who of course cannot pay it. So in exchange for forgiving the debt, these banks take control of the only assets these countries have --- their natural resources.

Some of the most established banks in the world engage in this dirty little game. And although the BCCI did not invent the game, they revolutionized it.

Illicit arms dealing, money laundering, predatory lending, odious debt, third-world conflict --- the consequences of what corrupt financial institutions are doing have a profound effect in the world we live in. And the BCCI was the forefather of it all...

that's messed up... mostly a complete lie.

The Pakistani dude who started BCCI was chased out of the US by a concerted and coordinated Zionist Jew attack via media and law enforcement because he was opening the door for gentile control in a khazar dominated system of control.  If they had allowed it to "flourish" there's no telling where we would be in this stage with more and more non-khazars running banks minimizing their ability to centralize and insidiously work together.  That's the cohesiveness they always need to dodge gentile anger and "blowback"

Everything I have seen on BCCI on the internet is incorrect in some way.  Its rather unfortunate so few know the whole story.  I meant to write an article about it a year ago and never got around to it.

Good find.

That article's from Gary Webb... the journalist that exposed cocaine and CIA/contra connection. He was shot in the head TWICE and the coroner concluded it was a suicide.

I never researched BCCI, I only found it on IMDB while I was checking when "The International" will be released. IMDB is too kosher so I take everything in it with a grain of salt, but I just found the post interesting and the guy who posted it didn't give credit to the person who wrote the article so I didn't know where it came from.
