QuoteDeputies have message for Mayor Gordon: 'Shut Up!'

Some Maricopa County deputies have a message for Phoenix Mayor Phil Gordon, Mesa Police Chief George Gascon and Supervisor Mary Rose Wilcox -- "Shut Up!"

The deputies and other employees of the sheriff's department rallied at Phoenix City Hall Thursday afternoon.

They said they're sick and tired of doing their jobs, putting criminals in jail and saving victims and then being accused of racial profiling by people in power.

Sgt. Brett Palmer said, "We're telling these people in power such as Phil Gordon, Mary Rose Wilcox and Police Chief Gascon, shut up! They're ignorant. They don't know what it is they're talking about. They don't have their facts straight."

Palmer said he welcomes a Department of Justice investigation and is confident they will be vindicated.

Here's an excerpt of a 2006 report where jewish Phil Gordon celebrates disallowing critics of Israel from working in government positions:

QuoteGordon stressed that he was at the rally not as a private Jewish individual but as an official representative of Phoenix's municipal government.

"Today, local government needs to stand up, needs to have their voice heard, needs to make sure that we stand loudly and proudly with the state of Israel," he said. "Today, even in our valley and even in my city, I'm ashamed to say, some still cling to bad ideas whose time will never come. Some still print maps not showing the state of Israel or call for its destruction in publicity pamphlets right here in this valley, right here in my city, and that's why I'm proud that the City Council last week took action and removed one individual that was serving on an official city government policy body, because that individual won't be speaking with the voice of the city or the government. And, yes, this country is great, and this state is great, and allows anyone to speak their mind, even bad, even horrible ideas, but not as a representative of our government."

Gordon was referring to the removal of Marwan Ahmad from the city's Human Relations Commission. Ahmad, a Palestinian-born Muslim, is the publisher of the Multicultural Yellow Pages, a directory that excludes any mention of Israel or Jewish organizations.
