Genetic diseases prevalent among Ashkenazic Jews (of European descent) may actually be tied to a higher intellience quotient, according to two American professors.

Anthropology researches Gregory Cochran and Henry Harpending argue that neurological disorders such as Tay-Sachs and Canavan disease have made Jews smarter, due to what is known as heterozygote advantage.

The condition of having one copy of a mutated gene can present a health benefit, they say, whereas having two can be deadly.
   
The controversial theory was first presented in professors their book," The 10,000 Year Explosion", released in February.

The Baltimore Sun quotes the professors as citing sickle cell anemia, common amongst people of African descent, where two mutated hemoglobin B genes distort red blood cells until they cannot carry oxygen to internal organs.

On the other hand, people of African descent who have only one mutated hemoglobin B gene develop a resistance to malaria.

Under Cochran and Harpending's theory, natural selection would favor those Jews who only formed the single mutated gene, which has the potential to lead to greater brain power, according to a recent article in the Baltimore Sun.

The theory could stir uncomfortable memories of race-based theories of intelligence, and some researchers have said it fails to take into account social and cultural factors that may affect how intelligence is gauged in different ethnic groups

Baltimore almost got the name of Basel from its thriving Jewish community, who centered merchant enterprises there as the canals were being planned to bring inland commodities to the seaport. It's a major and early suburb for Wash DC, site of the first railroad ties from the Baltimore & Ohio RR.

The article from Haaretz claims this "news" is from "anthropology researches". The field of anthropology was launched from Columbia University in NYC by its "father" Franz Boas, who was nephew (by marriage) to a medical doctor ("father" of pediatrics) Abraham Jacobi. Jacobi was a senior contemporary in the New York City medical establishment. He married a "neurologist" (Mary Putnam-- daughter of famous publisher, George Putnam) and worked closely with the burgeoning science of neurology and infectious disease. Bernard Sachs, the "Sachs" in the disorder of Tay-Sachs, is probably the most prominent of NYC pediatric neurologists, and yes, he's the brother of Goldman-Sachs founder. Bernard Sach's daughter, Helen, married Nathan Straus Jr. (whose close friend, Otto Frank, was father of Diary fame Anne Frank). Sachs was a fellow student in Europe with Sigmund Freud in the 1880s. It just goes on and on....

Jews have been trying all this time to prove themselves a genetically separate race with their own special diseases. Breast cancer is one such disease, however there is no evidence it occurs at a higher rate in Jews. Getting the health authorities to believe it has led to heavily subsidized care in the name of medical studies. Mammograms and follow-up for non-Jews in the NY area cost approximately 2,300, and for Jews "in the study", about $200. Parkinson's and MS are two other diseases the Jews claim as peculiar to them.

Summary.

A number of studies have found that Ashkenazi Jews in the United States have a high average IQ. It has been proposed by Cochran, Hardy and Harpending (2006) that this can be explained by the occupational constraints imposed on the Ashkenazi for many centuries in Europe, when they were largely confined to money-lending. They propose that this selected for the high verbal and mathematical intelligence that has several times been found in American Ashkenazim. The current study investigates how far this theory holds for European and Oriental Jews in Israel. A review of studies shows that Oriental Jews in Israel have an average IQ 14 points lower than that of European (largely Ashkenazi) Jews. It is proposed that this difference can be explained in terms of the Cochran, Hardy and Harpending theory because Oriental Jews were permitted to engage in a much wider range of occupations and hence did not come under the selection pressure to develop the high verbal and mathematical intelligence that was present for Ashkenazim.

On IQ, I have heard / read that Iodine given to children while growing up can help boost their IQ 10% higher. In Japan for instance people eat seaweed which is rich in Iodine. (see asian countries on the list have such high IQs they eat seaweed alot more than we do in the west)
Take fluoride out of the water if its added as fluoride reduces IQ 10%. (they hate the Irish)
Also, Idoine also blocks absorbtion of xenoestrogens (chemicals that mimic the female hormone, found in plastic bottles etc. ) This can enable boys develop normally and be more masculine and not end up being little feminine fags whose balls never drop.

Anybody heard any information to the contary regarding iodine, Jenny perhaps ?
If not give your children that 20% in IQ boost by taking iodine and avoiding flouride.

I looked very briefly into Intelligence Testing, a subject that has always been controversial. The systems were designed to support the ideas of Eugenics. I'm sure there are some murky tales there considering the resulting legal classifications. A ground-breaking case for sterilization in the U.S. is called Buck v.
