An effort by Palestinian academics to gain support for a boycott against Israel is showing some signs of success in the United Kingdom.

Palestinian academics have called for a "boycott, disinvestments and sanctions" (BDS) campaign against Israeli academic institutions for their cooperation with "security-military establishment" operated by Tel Aviv.

"Israeli universities and research institutions co-operate closely with the security-military establishment ..., they have never dissociated themselves from the occupation regime, despite the more than four decades of the systematic stifling of Palestinian education," Amjad Barham, the head of a Palestinian academic union said on Tuesday.

The main motion, compiled by academics at Brighton University, the College of North East London and the University of East London, accuses Israeli educational institutions of "complicity ... in colonization and military preparation".

"Congress affirms support for the Palestinian call for a boycott, disinvestment and sanctions campaign," the motion reads.

This necessitates action to "renew urgently its call to members to reflect on the moral and political appropriateness of collaboration with Israeli educational institutions".

The Scottish Trades Union Congress (STUC), the umbrella organization of all trade unions in Scotland, has also backed the move, calling for boycotts against Israel "until it complies with international laws and agreed principles of human rights."

The decision followed a two-year "consultation" process that emerged when a delegation sent to Israel and the Palestinian territories "witnessed the human rights violations experienced by ordinary Palestinians on a daily basis."

"We saw how restrictions on movement and checkpoints prevent people from going to work, to school and to visit their families even when they are sick and dying," said the STUC general secretary, Grahame Smith, in an annual conference last week.

Israel has pursued a policy of separating the Palestinian territories of the West Bank and the Gaza Strip in order to create two culturally and ethnically distinct societies.

The Israeli policy is similar to that of Great Britain in the Asia Pacific region where British colonialists encouraged culturally distinctions between Bangladesh and Pakistan and controlled both territories under a single rule.

After Britain withdrew from the area in the midst of the 20th century, the Bangladeshis unhappy with what they called their role as junior partner in the unlikely marriage struggled to gain independence from Pakistan.

Bangladesh finally seceded from Pakistan in 1971.

Ever since capturing Gaza in 1967, Israel has under the pretext of security placed tight travel restrictions on the territory.

Tel Aviv has also barred Palestinians in the West Bank from entering into the Gaza Strip. It is rare for Israel to allow those living in Gaza to leave the blockaded territory.

Unnerving TRUTH & REALITY is that the ESSENCE of Judaism it simply & actually the Jew's coveted belief in their 'Chosen' Hallucination & in their Worship of their History of 'Holy' DEMENTIA. there are many people in UK who work tirelessly, day in day out to support the Palestinian struggle. People are highly organised and not concerned whether they receive praise or not. This is missing the point. Yes the campaign is proving effective. a tipping point will be reached, just as with SA Apartheid. Unless we get the much craved christian neocon rapture focused on Iran.

israel is to be reviled. it shows the world the very depths of immoral depraved behaviour. as it is a racist supremacist occupying power it seeks to deny palestinians even food & medicines, let alone allow them education Ummm, seem to recall a Palestinian cultural event being raided by IDF storm troopers last week.
