To me it makes sense that East Saint Louis was once a Jewish Mob enclave.  Now the mobsters live in Clayton, MO; County Seat.

I looked at some of these videos and it sure brought back memories of the disproportionate black population, the tattered and grimey appearance of the area (circa mid 80's), the location of all the heavily polluting industries located there and, last but not least, the only place to go after 1:00 AM to party.  I fondly remember entering a bar with a buddy at 3:00 AM and stopping all conversation whilst receiving the gazes of dozens of white eyes.  We felt quite popular for some odd reason. :shock:

I lived in St. Louis for many years and there may be a reason for the intensity of the gang bangin'.  Not originally from the area, I noticed upon moving there that the Metro area is distinctly divided along racial lines.  North, mainly black, South mainly white and few white folks had very little interaction with blacks when growing up, leaving them socially ignorant; schools were non-integrated.  Many white people were stereotypical in that each knew a couple of black people and carried that with pride (liberal) or disdain (cracker).

When ever I visited for business the East St. Louis area I illegally carried a gun in my car.  There were areas that had broad daylight car-jackings BEFORE they were called that.  I recall that it was spookier during the day than at night, of course I was maybe too inebriated at night to notice.
I will gladly pay you Tuesday for a Hamburger today.

Wasn't East St. Louis fairly affluent at one time? That's where Miles Davis grew up, and his daddy had a lot of money and tried to send him to Julliard.

Interesting about the cryptos of STL. I thought the large German population where Rhinelanders. Lots of red-headed cuties of German stock in St. Louie, no?

Not all the 'Scrubby Dutch (Deutsch)' were crypto and I really never noticed an unusual amount of Red-heads; but cuties definitely.

Sorry I dragged all of this stuff out but it is like opening an old box up in the attic or down in the basement. Sometimes the memories, and the life and death close encounters with gangstas, comes out.

You know E. St. Louis was once the richest city in the USA per capita back in the 1920s due to the booming chemical industries (Monsanto/Rockefeller) -- its kind of spooky if you go through it today. It was even spookier back in the late 1980s and early 1990s.

I remember that it was not unheard of that in early March when the snows and ice started to melt that wild dogs in ESTL would come out of the Tall weeds and woods with a human arm or leg in their mouth.

 A lot of bodies dumped in the Tall Weeds and decrepit homes by Gangstas, on both sides of the river over the winter, suddenly start to rot when the weather gets warmer. It attracts the dogs.

BTW, I once knew a fantastically full figured German Red-Headed gal named Rickenbacker. Likewise on January 8, Miss Christian's father, Gary, found her Toyota 4-Runner abandoned near railroad tracks, not far from where a railroad employee found Mr. Newsom's desecrated corpse that same day. There was a fingerprint from Lemaricus Davidson inside the vehicle, which led to a search of his apartment on January 10. There police found Miss Christian's corpse in a garbage can in the kitchen.
