Iran's Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki

Iranian Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki says "Iran's logic and resistance" defeated the country's enemies in the nuclear talks.

"We can say that the talks held in Geneva about Iran's nuclear program was one step forward," IRNA quoted Mottaki as saying on Thursday.

The foreign minister was referring to a meeting, held earlier this month, between Iran and the fiver permanent members of the United Nations Security Council plus Germany (P5+1).

Mottaki noted that during the last year's talks in Geneva, the world powers had set preconditions for talks with Iran, but in the recent talks, they adopted a different approach towards Tehran's package of proposals.

"The result of the talks about Iran's package of proposals in Geneva earlier this month, in which the US representative was also present, was the fact that the powers agreed on the package as the base for the talks. Last year, the situation was not like this," he added.

"Today, even the US says it is ready for negotiation with Iran without any precondition," the minister said.

"With respect to the nuclear energy program, as long as we fulfill our obligations to the IAEA, our rights must be recognized by other countries," Mottaki said.

The minister concluded that "on the issue of nuclear energy; thanks to Iran's logic and resistance, the enemies of the Iranian nation have been defeated."
