I'm very gratified to find that Matthew Good, one of my favorite musicians, a truly fine songwriter and artist, wrote the following on his Website, http://www.matthewgood.org:

QuoteVampires Suck
Hypocrisy is far more thrilling, far more interesting, though far less marketable.

Glancing at the front page of the BBC's website this morning I though a miracle had happened. I didn't have my glasses on, so I thought the headline read: Bands Rock Palestinian University. Unfortunately, after I put my glasses on I realized that it read: Blasts Rock Pakistan University. So much for the healing connectivity of music.

I don't like vampires. In the pantheon of cool mythological creatures, vampires are lame. I care more about the fact that Madonna's neighbour in Manhattan is suing her because her music is often too loud than I do about vampires. I can relate to that. Some asshole used to live next to me that fancied himself a DJ and would pump "the beats" right behind the wall of my bedroom at 4 in the morning. I got him evicted. Hopefully he was a vampire.

One thing I do love is hypocrisy. Without out it I'd probably like vampires. Thankfully, the world is one giant ball of hypocrisy. Case in point...

"An American scientist who worked for the US defence department and the space agency Nasa has been charged with attempted espionage, officials say.

Stewart David Nozette tried to give classified information to a person whom he believed was an Israeli intelligence officer, the justice department said.
The 52-year-old, who once had top security clearance, was arrested on Monday by FBI agents, it added.

The complaint does not allege Israel or anyone acting for it violated US law."

Of course, the reason the FBI chose to use Israeli intelligence as the sting's modus operandi is because Israeli intelligence is guilty of doing it in the past. Oh, not to worry, the US has never gone after them for it. They've thrown those guilty in jail, but as far as the Israelis are concerned, well, they get a free pass. You see, you can label the individual involved in providing the information as treasonous, but when it comes to Israeli intelligence you don't go knocking on Israel's door demanding answers. As Bruce Hornsby once put it – that's just the way it is.

See, compared to hypocrisy, vampires suck.

This is an artist that gets it. Without resorting to any AJisms he's written tunes like Lullaby for the New World Order and Black Helicopters. He's written on his blog about the myth of 9/11, but he doesn't preach it; rather, he tucks his observations into biting irony and stabbing heartache. He resonates with me because he seems to know the world only sucks because it could be so much better and he's searching for reasons to justify optimism.

He might lean a bit left and give O'bombya some benefit of the doubt, but everything takes time. At least he's reading antiwar.com a lot based on his daily reading list:
