PostgreSQL : Letter from the CEO

2010 will be the defining year for Postgres in the Enterprise. With the economy still in deep turmoil and the relentless pressure on IT budgets, infrastructure software spending (60%+ of most IT software budgets) will turn to the most expensive line item for relief – the database. For the enterprise developer, architect and DBA, Postgres will, more than ever before, be moved into the mainstream. As you already know, Postgres performance, features and stability offer the most remarkable "bang-for-the-buck" in the database market today.  The momentum of the Postgres community is invigorating - especially given the recent citation of the EU declaring the PostgreSQL alternative as a primary reason for approving Oracle/Sun. This supports my belief that Postgres is the only real choice for organizations looking to deploy an open source database that is backed by a truly independent community. In reflection, 2009 was EnterpriseDB's strongest year ever – from revenues, to the number of new customers, to the advances in our products and services, to the sheer volume of prospect interest and inquiry, this was a defining year for our company.

My message to our customers, our partners, our community, and prospective Postgres users is simple – what you do every day matters. The health of our open source database community depends upon your endorsement and the support of your organizations. It requires the active participation and quality contributions not only of its core team members and committers, but also from the broader ecosystem of partners, solution providers and end users. Working closely with community leadership, this is what we will be helping to showcase at Pg East March 25-28, so check it out and join us there.

It is only through your work and increased attention that we can maintain the vibrancy of the Postgres community. As customers of EnterpriseDB or users of Postgres, we hope that you will continue to spread the word about why Postgres is the world's most advanced open source database. Proudly identify yourself as part of this community, and encourage others to take a closer look at our world-class technology.

I look forward to our continued success together!
