An Israeli living in Canada has been recently arrested in Montreal along with three other men on suspicion of committing a $1.8 million fraud, the Canadian media reported on Friday.

Alberta police suspect Ehud Tenenbaum and the three co-conspirators hacked into the database of a Calgary financial services company and changed the value of the debit cards to an amount higher than their face price.

Investigators are now working to establish whether Tenenbaum, 29, of Montreal, is the same Ehud Tenenbaum who became known some ten years as "the Analyzer" after hacking into computers belonging to the Pentagon.

The four suspects were arrested in Montreal and brought to Calgary on Tuesday.

Tenenbaum has been charged with six counts of fraudulent use of credit card data and one count of fraud over $5,000. He is the only one of the four suspects who remains in custody.

This is a breaking news story... we'll get more info as it comes out!

Canada: Israeli hacker suspected of involvement in major fraud case

Ehud Tenenbaum, who 10 years ago hacked Pentagon computers, detained on fraud charges

Police in Canada arrested four suspects in connection with a major fraud case, including 29-year-old Ehud Tenenbaum, believed to be the notorious hacker who breached the Pentagon's computer system in 1998, Canadian media reported.

Tenenbaum's mother told Ynet: "I know that he is in France and Canada sometimes. I tried to contact him today but wasn't able to." Meanwhile, Foreign Ministry officials said they were looking into the report.

Tenenbaum, who became known as "The Analyzer,"  is charged with hacking a Canadian company's computer system and defrauding it of CDN$1.8 million.

Police in Canada believe that Tenenbaum and his three alleged Montreal accomplices inflated the value of debit cards and later withdrew the money at bank machines across Canada and elsewhere. The Calgary-based company targeted by the hackers was not named.

The US Secret Service and the Vancouver police were reportedly also involved in the investigation.

The Israeli hacker gained notoriety in 1998 after breaching various high-profile computer systems in the US, including the Pentagon, Air Force, and Navy. Tenenbaum also hacked several major Israeli websites, including the Knesset site. He was found guilty by the Tel Aviv District Court and sentenced to a year and a half in prison.

At the time, Tenenbaum's involvement was exposed after two American citizens, who were his "students," were detained. The subsequent probe led to Tenenbaum. Later, American investigators arrived in Israel and provided police here with information regarding the computer crimes carried out by the Israeli hacker.
