"One of the UK's most respected international criminal lawyers who was
representing Wikileaks founder Julian Assange has died after being hit
by a train in West Hampstead.

Married father of two John Jones, QC, worked at renowned legal
chambers, Doughty Street and died last Monday morning. Police say they
are not treating the death as suspicious.

The 48-year-old barrister has been described as "a giant in his field"
by colleagues, who said that his death is "a monumental loss to the
cause of international justice and human rights."

Oxford graduate Mr Jones, who took silk in 2013, specialised in
extradition, war crimes and counter-terrorism, representing clients
from around the world in high profile cases.

He was part of a team of lawyers acting to prevent the extradition of
Julian Assange - holed up in the Ecuadorian embassy for four years -
whose case is currently being heard by the UN Working Group on
   Arbitrary Detention.

Mr Jones was also working with his colleague Amal Clooney to try and
halt the execution of Colonel Gaddafi's son Saif and Libyan spy chief
   Abdullah-al Senussi.

Earlier in his career, he helped bring to justice some of those
responsible for genocide in the former Yugoslavia as part of the UN's
International Criminal Tribunal, working to establish procedures that
were used in the historic trials.

As well as his criminal law work, Mr Jones acted as a human rights
lawyer, saving a 19-year old from the death penalty in Singapore,
fighting on behalf of journalists for free speech in Africa, and making
representations to the UN to prevent torture.

He joined Doughty Street in 2005, where he worked alongside some of the
UK's top barristers, including Keir Starmer, MP for Holborn and St
Pancras, who remains an associate tenant there.

Mr Starmer, who knew Mr Jones well, said: "John made a huge
contribution to international justice. His loss is felt deeply by all
his friends and colleagues, and all our thoughts are with his family
   and friends."

Doughty Street Chambers said in a statement: "The passing of John Jones
QC is a monumental loss to the cause of international justice and human
rights worldwide. He was a pioneer, at the forefront of establishing
our modern system of international criminal justice, and a giant in the
   field.

"John was a good friend, great colleague and a brilliant and creative
   lawyer.

"John was admired and appreciated for his amazing sense of humour, his
professionalism and his deep commitment to justice and the rule of law.

"His death is a huge loss for all of us in Chambers, for the British
and international legal profession, but mostly for his family to whom
we offer our sincerest and deepest condolences."

The statement also praised Mr Jones for his wit, eloquence and
benevolence. His colleagues said: "John prepared humbler cases with a
rigour equal to his higher profile ones. He constantly gave his
services for free, and his generous spirit and selfless devotion came
   at some cost."

Mr Jones lived in Kentish Town with his wife and two young children.

A statement from British Transport Police said officers attended West
Hampstead rail station at 7.07 on Monday morning after a man was struck
   by a train.

It said: "He was pronounced dead at the scene. The man's death is not
being treated as suspicious. A file will be prepared for the coroner."

Messages of support can be sent to condolences@doughtystreet.co.uk and
cards or letters can be sent to Chambers (53-54 Doughty Street, WC1N
2LS) to be forwarded to the family.

A fund has been set up for his family, and donations can be made to the
Doughty Street John Jones QC Memorial Fund (sort code 20-77-67, account

Julian Assange's Lawyer Found Dead After Being Struck by Train

"John Jones 48, one of Britain's  top human rights lawyers, and a
representative for Julian Assange, was killed last Monday, 15 August
   2016
[18 April 2016], when he was struck by a commuter train.  The
death is being called a suicide.

British Transport Police were called to the West Hampstead train
station in North London at 7:07AM on Monday, after the report of a man
struck by a train. He was reportedly pronounced dead at the scene and
his death is not being treated as suspicious.

Jones worked on the same team as actor George Clooney's wife, Amal. He
specialized in extradition, war crimes and counter-terrorism. He was
known for taking cases from the former Yugoslavia, Rwanda, Sierra
   Leone, Lebanon and Cambodia.

The news is particularly disturbing, as Democratic Strategist and CNN
host, Bob Beckel recently appeared in a FOXTV interview and called for
the assassination of Julian Assange (or more accurately, "Just kill the
   sonofabitch!")

Assange is believed to be planning a strategic "October Surprise" leak
of a Hillary Clinton email, just prior to the US Presidential Election.
It purportedly contains information that will definitively put her
   behind bars."

Concerns raised over hospital's treatment of 'brilliant' barrister who was hit by train

A private hospital has been told it must make changes after the death of Mr Jones

"A LEADING human rights lawyer was allowed to walk out of a private
psychiatric hospital at 5am while "really unwell" just hours before he
jumped in front of a train, an inquest heard.

John Jones QC, a barrister who worked on high-profile war crimes trials
at The Hague, died instantly in the collision in West Hampstead on
April 18 this year, St Pancras Coroners Court heard yesterday
   (Thursday).

Mr Jones, a married father-of-two, was the head of international law at
   Doughty Street Chambers, Bloomsbury.

He had been admitted to the private Nightingale Hospital in Lisson
Grove, Marylebone, in March, with a number of mental health issues,
which had been given a "working diagnosis" of bipolar disorder and
   anxiety by his psychiatrist.

But the court heard that he spent the majority of the time alone in his
room, refusing to attend therapy sessions or even eat in the communal
   dinning room.

Coroner Mary Hassell raised concerns about his treatment and said: "He
was in his room, lying on his bed or on his laptop. That seems fairly
awful in therapeutic terms. To me if I were worried about a person that
was mentally unwell I would think that environment was the worst
   possible environment for them."

Ms Hassell is to write to the hospital demanding changes she believes
must be made to prevent future deaths. She said patients at psychiatric
hospitals must be made to engage with therapy.

She said: "I think his failure to engage was part and parcel of his
   illness."

On the day before his death, Mr Jones, who lived in  had spent the day
with his family, who had become increasing concerned about his
wellbeing. The inquest heard  that Mr Jones may have been suffering
from the side effects of withdrawal from his medication. He returned to
the hospital, where he was a voluntary inpatient, that night, but at
5am the following morning he was allowed to leave the hospital after
filling out his own risk assessment form.

Ms Hassell questioned the efficacy of such a form, which she described
as "perfunctory".  She said: "Surely there will be in an incentive for
him just to tick 'no I've not got a risk of this' and then just leave."

In a statement, read to the court, his father, Hugh Jones, said: "I was
astonished he had gone out so early in the morning when he was in such
   a bad way."

Mental health nurse, Katie McTaggart, who agreed to let him leave, said
he had shown no signs of being a danger to himself. The court heard
that, under the Mental Health Act, she could have stopped Mr Jones
leaving if she was sufficiently worried about his state of mind.
Questioned about allowing Mr Jones to leave the hospital at 5am, Ms
McTaggart said: "We can't section someone because it's early in the
   morning."

She said the form was only "one aspect" of their risk assessment,
adding: "We do constant risk assessments as nurses."

She said: "I didn't have any concerns about him having suicidal plans
   or planning to harm himself".

The court had heard that Mr Jones, who lived in Hampstead Garden
Suburbs, struggled to continue to work as his condition worsened. He
had represented Julian Assange as the Swedish government attempted to
extradite the Wikileaks founder. Among his other clients were Saif
Gaddafi, the son of the fallen Libyan leader, and Charles Taylor, the
former Liberian president serving a 50-year sentence.

At the time of his death, he was described by colleagues as a
   "brilliant and creative lawyer".

Doughty Street Chambers said in a statement: "John was admired and
appreciated for his amazing sense of humour, his professionalism and
his deep commitment to justice and the rule of law."

Returning a narrative determination, Ms Hassell said that she had no
doubt he intended to jump in front of the train, but added: "The state
of his mental health at the time meant he lacked the necessary intent
   to categorise this as suicide."

She said: "It seems to me that at the time of his death he was actually
   very poorly."

She said that CCTV footage proved that he acted alone, adding: "I rule
out completely the action of any other person."

Assange's Barrister John Jones Q.C. already died on Monday, Apr 18,
2016 so we are basically looking at old news. What did happen last
Thursday, Aug 18, 2016 was that the official inquiry into the Train
accident published a official report :

Anyone heard of a renowned Barrister, who next becomes "Brilliant"
between quotes? Next winds up inside Psychiatric care, was
after-all not so renowned and brilliant but merely only a
"Nutcase" between the ears ?

Great find, Robert. Wow.  Happened in April, and nobody seemed to wonder about  him maybe being  "suicided," after getting "psychiatric" treatment.

Wonder if Assange ever mentioned it, if only to speak about losing a "friend."  After all, he commented about the killing of Seth Rich in far-off DC.

Even if Assange believed, or knew, that it was suicide, he should have devoted a few kind words to his "friend," unless they had a falling-out.  Or, maybe Assange didn't want to publicize his death, to prevent "theories" from being circulated.  Then, again, there are some who think Assange is on a very deep, very long-term CIA/Mossad mission, and, maybe, he knew that his "friend" was beginning to "know to much."

All in all, very very curious, indeed.

How did it happen that such a great renowned and brilliant Barrister,
the LEADING human rights lawyer got side-tracked into Psychiatric care ?
Or is the entire psychiatric hospital paper-trail made up from the beginning
to its end,  in a apparent suicide by getting hit by a train in West Hampstead ?
