In Belgium, the Jewish community has been left dismayed by a traditional carnival, with roots stretching back all the way to medieval times. This year, it featured allegedly anti-Semitic and racist floats.

Although the annual event has previously been hailed as a cultural marvel by the UN's world heritage body - some now think it should be left to the past.
