This piece of information is amazingly invaluable to anyone living in the US. Many Europeans living in the US can agree to the honest realistic comparisons. Personally I have lived in the U.K. and became accustomed to the lifestyle (admittedly nothing like Russia), upon returning... the US is a very different world and realisticly speaking America does not stand a very good chance of doing things "right" in times of struggle. It just isn't in the American mindset, in my opinion. I am American first and foremost and I have again adapted mentally to life in the US (My home country) but I still have enough brains to see a country divided by many many factors. Obviously all we can do is hope for the best and prepare for the worst.

The best book that describes that was written in 2002-2003 by Emmanuel Todd called "After the Empire: The Breakdown of the American Order". Emmanuel Todd also predicted the fall of the Soviet Union in the 1970's through failed economic policies and foreign military adventures, he says the same will happen to the US and he describes it in a socioeconomic way since he is a sociologist after all. But its a great read concerning that topic.
