Israeli military initiates ground invasion of northern Gaza Strip

Bethlehem - Ma'an - Israeli ground forces crossed the northern border into the Gaza Strip on Saturday night.

Tanks crossed into northern Gaza in the midst of continuing airstrikes on parts of Gaza that killed 18 Palestinians in Beit Lahiya, Rafah and Ash-Shuja'ieyah earlier in the day.

Military analysts on Israeli TV said the ground invasion is aimed at taking over the areas from which projectiles are fired on Israeli towns.

Since last Saturday, tens of thousands of Israeli reservists have been called up for the possibility of a ground invasion. Thousands have assembled along Gaza's borders in the past few days.
