Ex-CEO of kosher slaughterhouse: Grand jury biased

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (AP) — Attorneys for the former CEO of the nation's largest kosher meatpacking plant say immigration, bank fraud and other charges against him should be dismissed because the grand jury that indicted him was biased against Jews.

Sholom Rubashkin faces nearly 100 federal counts and is accused of helping illegal immigrants get fake documents so they could work at Agriprocessors Inc.'s slaughterhouse in Postville, Iowa.

On Monday, his attorney and an attorney for Agriprocessors asked U.S. District Judge Linda Reade to dismiss the charges against Rubashkin and the company.

The attorneys say the grand jury developed prejudices based on Jewish stereotypes.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Sean Berry says the indictment was based on evidence, not religion.
"The real menace of our Republic is the invisible government which like a giant octopus sprawls its slimy legs over our cities, states and nation. At the head is a small group of banking houses generally referred to as \'international bankers.\' This little coterie... run our government for their own selfish ends. It operates under cover of a self-created screen, seizes our executive officers, legislative bodies, schools, courts, newspapers and every agency created for the public protection."
