Gazan children to be screened for long-term effects of white phosphorus

QuoteWhite Phosphorus has been called The Slow Killer. Apparently, recovery from these burns is a pretty touch-and-go affair. Death may result even with minimal burn areas. Early recognition of affected areas and adequate resuscitation is crucial. ( Burns – August 2001 27:5 492-497 )

The Gazan organization, Atfaluna, is the main childhood deafness referral and resource center for institutions, clinics, and hospitals in the Gaza Strip. Three hundred of their children will participate in the new study, along with 700 more kids from the Culture and Free Thought Association, a support group for Gaza's traumatized children. The project is supported in part by the Japanese government.

One can only wonder why three hundred deaf kids happen to have WP burns when "the most moral army in the world" absolutely insists that its "surgical strikes" absolutely did not target children. Granted, one would expect a high rate of deafness in Gaza, considering all the morally acceptable sonic booms and stuff.

Shalom, yeah.

Program supported by Japanese government will monitor 1000 children for long-term effects

The Union of Health Care Committees (UHCC) in Gaza and in cooperation with the Campaign for the Children of Palestine (CCP) will begin a program offering medical check-ups and screening for 1,000 children in the Strip.

The children, 300 from the Afaluna Society for Deaf Children and 700 associated with the Culture and Free Thought Association in Gaza will be screened with particular attention to the long-term effects of the use of white phosphorus weapons by Israel during its war against the Gaza Strip.

Children requiring follow-up treatment and medications will be seen by both Japanese and Jordanian doctors, who are supporting the initiative.

The Japanese government are financially supporting the program, as well as sending experienced doctors into the region to assist in the medical treatment.
