Frankfurt am Main
 Das Stammhaus der Rothschild
The Ancestral Home of the Rothschilds
 Judengasse

The building was actually two houses under one roof, the "House of the Red Shield" (Rothen Schild) on the left, and the "House of the Schiff" on the right, with a common ground floor, but completely divided in the upper stories, three windows wide.  By 1886, when the underlying facade was exposed during the creation of the new Boernestrasse, it was one of the few remaining examples of the narrow half-timbered building of the old "Judengasse."  The building dated to the 17th Century.   Mayer Amschel, the patriarch, father of the famous "Five Frankfurters" was born in the House of the Red Shield in 1743.  He bought the house in 1780.

So why is it that Peter Schiff is still smiling today? Is he part of the Rothschild/Schiff clan?

By command of the Emperor Friedrich III in 1462, all of Frankfurts Jews were forced to exchange their quarter just south of the Cathedral with this area near the Wollgraben.  The Ghetto was separated from the rest of the city by three gates, and all Jews were forced to live there until 1796 when the area was bombarded by French Revolutionary troops, and half the street burned down.  Around 4000 people lived on the oppressive narrow lane (400m long and at some parts only 3m wide).  The gates to the Ghetto were first removed in 1808.

In 1886, most the remainder of the lane was cleared except for a section of half timbered houses beginning at the Rothschild House.  In 1977, during construction of the City Works Client Center, a few foundations were found.  There has since been a call throughout Germany, widely covered by the press, for a "Museum Judengasse" at this original location.

This walling off the servants in "Ghettos" was typical practice and is still in use today i.e the City of London. I know it is difficult to grasp because it such huge mind bender but The Jews are administrators for larger Jewish and Non-Jewish interests.
