i was just thinking about him.

his birthday is September 5.

an odd combination of con man and mystic.  sort of an outpatient cult.

of course, they're still going at

i always wondered what Werner Erhard did when he left est and did "business consulting in Russia".

working for Mossad, helping divide up public goods so they end up in the hands of the new Jewish owners, e.g. Roman Abramovitch ?

est's office was at 1710 Franklin, in Pacific Heights.  plenty of contact between old Werner and the Russian Jewish community in SF.

MGT23,

I caught a bit of your Catch-22 broadcast on the Landmark Education cult earlier. Thanks for your research on this insidious little organisation.

Someone close to me was suckered into their three-day Landmark Forum brainwashing programme a few months back, and even invited me along for the fourth (recruitment) day (as all participants are programmed to do):

Quote"One of the most irritating aspects of The Forum is the hard sell to sign up future participants. Leaders encourage people to bring friends and family to [a] session to help celebrate their newfound love of life and invite them to enroll in the next available weekend." Capuzzo claims that  20 percent of the participants in her sessions brought visitors to the open session and nearly half the original participants signed up for an advanced course. - Skeptic's Dictionary: Landmark Forum

She was so enthusiastic about what she considered a highly transformative experience that I thought what-the-hell and went along.

There were about 200 present in the London hotel conference room - mostly participants from the three-day LF session, along with those friends and family members they'd invited along for this introductory seminar. The presentation began with a few of the weekend's participants speaking about how LF had transformed them.

The first was a Jewish lady with a personal, heart-rending story of the Holocaust™, the psychological toll it had taken on her family, the emotional consequences of that on her life - and how the LF experience had freed her of it.

After talking with a Forum participant, who seemed to know a lot of personal details about me (through my friend), the only concrete thing I really learned about the Forum's methods was that it used "perturbation" [which you can see an example of in Voyage Au Pays Des Nouveaux Gourous, a 2003 documentary on Landmark Forum - watch from about 06:45]. Potential converts were taken in groups of about a dozen to separate rooms and given a talk by a volunteer speaker (in my case, I think the lady was a solicitor), scripted and choreographed right down to the last tear:-

QuoteThe concluding remarks were powerful. Sophie had tears in her eyes as she thanked us for letting her serve us. (I found the same speech on the web). - Inside The Landmark Forum

My friend did seem genuinely transformed by the experience in a positive way, but she retained a dependence on Landmark Education, and has since participated in advancement courses to regain the same high.

LEC seems to be controlled by one Jewish family, and quite an f'ed-up one at that:-

Joan Rosenberg, their sister, is VP for Landmark Education's Centers Division.

Some excerpts from this article:

QuoteLandmark Forum began in 1985 by those who purchased EST technology from Werner Ernard. In 1991 they legally changed their name from "EST" to Landmark Forum. Ernard's brother Harry Rosenberg heads LEC, which earns around $50 million a year.

QuoteWerner Erhard, of EST fame, called L. Ron Hubbard the "greatest philosopher of the twentieth Century."

Erhard and L. Ron Hubbard maintained a friendship prior to a falling-out.

QuoteErhard later faced tax disputes, allegations that he had perpetrated domestic violence, and an allegation of sexual impropriety against one or more of his daughters.  :o

QuoteIn Outrageous Betrayal, Steven Pressman recounts how incest allegations against Werner Erhard made on CBS television's 60 Minutes program in March 1991 came from Deborah Rosenberg, the youngest child from Erhard/Rosenberg's first marriage. Deborah Rosenberg's allegations of molestation and rape     also appeared in print in an article in the San Francisco Chronicle.

(By the way, there is a Landmark Forum for Young People (ages 8-12).)

QuoteErhard reported having had a revelation while driving on U.S. Route 101 in Marin County, California in 1971. He started to see the world as perfect "the way it is".  :?

QuoteFor whatever reason, Erhard sold up and left the United States, resurfacing later in El Salvador, the Soviet Union, Ireland and the Cayman Islands. A subsequent report implied that he feared physical harm in the United States due to Scientology's Fair Game policy.

QuoteCharlotte Faltermayer, in an article in Time magazine in March 1998, quoted Walter Plywaski, an electronics engineer from Colorado who had participated in Landmark Education activities, and who regarded Werner Erhard as still "pulling the strings" at Landmark Education.

QuoteLandmark says that Erhard has nothing to do with The Forum. But the license Landmark obtained from Erhard enabling them to produce The Forum is in fact owned by Erhard, and is scheduled to revert to him in 2009. Erhard's 63 now and is assured 50 percent of Landmark's net pre-tax profit each quarter, not to exceed $15 million in the 18-year lifespan of the license.

Erhard/Rosenberg has been awarded:-
Quote*  Gandhi Humanitarian Award[73], 1988, Mahatma Gandhi International Foundation.
    * "Humanitarian Of The Year", 2003, Youth At Risk  , Roosevelt Hotel, New York City[74]

QuoteRecently I learned that two of the recruiters [for Landmark Forum] who approached me were also communicating with several survivors of sexual abuse in both the observant and nonobservant community of Baltimore.

QuoteThe Landmark Forum's 'seven commandments' for being an extraordinary person:

· Be Racket-Free: give up being right - even when you know you were.

· Be Powerful: be straight in your communication and take what you get.

· Be Courageous: acknowledge your fear (not necessarily get rid of it) and then act.

· Be Peaceful: give up the interpretation that there's something wrong.

· Be Charismatic: give up trying to get somewhere. Be entirely fulfilled in the present moment.

· Be Enrolling: share your new possibilities in such a way that others are touched, moved and inspired.

· Be Unreasonable: in expectations of yourself and others beyond what you would think they are capable of.

Is Landmark Forum a Cult?

these people are unbelievable......

CrackSmokeRepublican

Quote. As noted in Sports Illustrated, Tiger Woods' father said "What I learned through est was that by doing more for myself, I could do much more for others. Which is where Tiger comes in. What I learned led me to give so much time to Tiger, and to give him the space to be himself, and not to smother him with dos and don'ts. I took out the authority aspect and turned it into companionship. I made myself vulnerable as a parent. When you have to earn respect from your child, rather than demanding it because it's owed to you as the father, miracles happen. I realized that, through him, the giving could take a quantum leap. What I could do on a limited scale, he could do on a global scale."[45] Over the years, Werner Erhard's philosophy has been cited in helping to promote [46] a multi-billion-dollar personal growth industry based on Erhard's original concepts.[47][48]

Looks like Tiger didn't get all of Erhard's "Do's" and "Don'ts"...  :D

This is indeed a good research on this organization mgt23. Thanks.
After the Revolution of 1905, the Czar had prudently prepared for further outbreaks by transferring some $400 million in cash to the New York banks, Chase, National City, Guaranty Trust, J.P.Morgan Co., and Hanover Trust. In 1914, these same banks bought the controlling number of shares in the newly organized Federal Reserve Bank of New York, paying for the stock with the Czar\'s sequestered funds. In November 1917,  Red Guards drove a truck to the Imperial Bank and removed the Romanoff gold and jewels. The gold was later shipped directly to Kuhn, Loeb Co. in New York.-- Curse of Canaan
