it has been revealed at a government committee hearing, that Rody Molloy, the disgraced former head of the Irish Employment and Training Authority (FAS), refused to resign unless he got 'a sweetheart deal'  top-up to his pension package far in excess of what he was entitled to:

if you get todays podcast of the 'News at One' bulletin, you will hear that 90,000 euros is a considerable underestimate of the total golden handshake this unethical, semi-state company fat cat has screwed out of the Irish taxpayer   :x  :x  :evil:

[remember that today's (Thursday's) show will be available tomorrow]

the 'Liveline'  chat show with Joe Duffy is being broadcast live now from the National Ploughing Championships in Co Kildare

If you want a good laugh, listen to it live now online or to the podcast tomorrow   :D  :D

Ognir and Jim Corr take note: the political -satirical song cotributions on this live show prove that rock music combined with a satirical political message broadcast over the public airwaves make for compulsive listening!

[I'm old enough to remember the comedic-satirical medley songs by 'The Barron Knights', the British send-up 'tribute' band of the 1960's;
their clever lyrics and accurate reproductions of the music and vocal styles of the top groups of the day lampooned many of the primadonna poseurs that dominated the '60's music scene] :)

Yep. He's a total asshole. I hope he chokes on it.
"The real menace of our Republic is the invisible government which like a giant octopus sprawls its slimy legs over our cities, states and nation. At the head is a small group of banking houses generally referred to as \'international bankers.\' This little coterie... run our government for their own selfish ends. It operates under cover of a self-created screen, seizes our executive officers, legislative bodies, schools, courts, newspapers and every agency created for the public protection."
John F. Hylan (1868-1936) - Former Mayor of New York City

Friday: grifter Molloy announced his resignation from the Chairmanship of the Irish Institute of Public Administration (IPA) a state body set up by the govt to monitor standards in public office (yes! you couldn't make this up!) this crook gave no reason for his departure but public pressure had been building up on him in recent days to step down from his position in IPA (which receives around 37 million euro annually from our tax coffers)
[his weekly pension take alone is ten times the standard state pension rate]

hear now online or later podcast 'the Marian Finucane Show' on RTE Radio for the background to the FAS expenses scandal:

http://www.rte.ie/radio1/marianfinucane/

'Irish Independent' journalist and Senator, Shane Ross, reveals the staggering profligacy of the FAS board under Molloy's control, the obstructions he met with in trying to uncover the scandal; also discusses the complicit statemant of Taoiseach Cowen saying this totally fraudulent spending was "within Department guidelines"

Cowen has come out strongly backing his Number 2 in govt, Tanaiste Mary Coughlan, whose sanctioning of the secret pay off (hush money?) to Molloy has triggered a storm of criticism;  she has also justified her decision not to seek legal advice re Molloy's threat of court action if his severance package wasn't inflated by claiming such advice wasn't necessary because what Molloy received was "commensurate with what he would have been entitled to" if she had sacked him! [what planet IS she living on?!!!!  :roll:  :x  :x]

now Cohen -er, I meant Cowen ;), has admitted there was NO legal threat by Molloy to trouser over I million euros of our hard-earned money;
this is the main story on the 'irish Independent' front page today:
Cowen admits no legal threat over €1.1m deal

Coughlan says FAS law contained basis for pay-off
The Tanaiste, Mary Coughlan, says the legal basis for the €1m golden handshake awarded to ex-FAS boss Rody Molloy was agreed under the legislation which set up the agency.
[attempting to cover her boss's ass, she is quoted as saying: "An Taoiseach was not informed of the day to day negotiations, he had no hand, act or part in them; the settlement was signed off by the Department of Finance under the Labour Services Act; criminal investigations are now taking place"].

Top civil servant negotiated Molloy's severance package

Bad publicity, resignations and maybe even threats of legal action

Cowen adds fuel to the fire just as burning issues were dying down

http://www.independent.ie/national-news/

On RTE's 'Morning Ireland' radio programme this morning, opposition Labour party leader Eamon Gilmore sensationally called Cowen and Coughlan liars and obfuscators because a Report to govt about poor fiscal management in FAS has existed for nearly 18 months [May 2008]and they never acted on it;
