on the eve of the first anniversary of the Irish government's controversial blanket commitment to bail out the banks, outspoken Professor John Kinsella has today launched his new book, 'Rebuilding Trust in the Banks';
in an RTE interview, he said:
"We need a total re-structuring of our banking system and a reversal of the prevailing ethos, that's to say,to create a system based on the common good instead of rebuilding institutions whose business model has laid waste a whole generation; the aim should be to put people before money and service before power; it will mean rebuilding at a global level".

Profesor Kinsella gave the Islamic, interest-free model of banking as an example of the kind of system we should have;

this book comes out against a background of profound public disquiet and bitterness over the evident failure of the financial regulator to fulfill his statutory duty and anger at the appalling behaviour of some of the fat cats in the banking and property sectors (like Neary, Fingleton, Carroll, et al) who are perceived to have been feather-bedded by their cartel's political members
